Highway 20 repaving set for summer

We’ll announce the starting date when we receive confirmation from our contractor, Lakeside Industries of Anacortes. They plan to grind and repave four sections of the project located on Whidbey and Fidalgo Islands first.

The crews will repave the Deception Pass and Canoe Pass bridges sometime between mid-July and the end of August. The bridges will be closed to all traffic for five nights starting on a Sunday night and ending on a Friday morning from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. for that work. We’ll have a better idea of when the bridge paving will occur as the project continues and we’ll post it on our construction update report soon as possible

The bridge will be open on Friday and Saturday nights. We worked with many local businesses and organizations to choose these hours.

We’ll also repave four sections of highway on the islands. These will require single lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday nights through Friday mornings. Flaggers or pilot vehicles will direct traffic through the work zones.

All paving work is weather-dependent; crews cannot pave if it’s rainy.
