Anacortes teachers went on strike Friday afternoon and demonstrated at 12th and Commercial over legislative inaction on education funding.
Anacortes Education Association President Carl Dellutri, a high school teacher, said the strike did not affect any classroom time as Friday had already been designated as a half-day for students with the afternoon set aside for teacher professional development.
Some hand-written signs said, "Lytton: Remember where you came from? Hear Us!" and, "Lytton: Fund Our Schools." Other signs said such things as, "Good Schools Require Good Funding."
The state legislature was to wrap up its current session Friday afternoon and return Wednesday for a special session, but Democrats and Republicans appear far apart on the state budget.
