The Port Commissioners have named current deputy Port director Chris Johnson has the acting executive director to replace Bob Hyde, who was pushed out as Executive Director during a meeting of Port Commissioners last week.

Hyde had been with the Port of Anacortes for more than eight years when he submitted his resignation last Thursday night after being told the Port needed a change of direction.

In a statement released Friday by the Port, Hyde is quoted as saying, “It has been my honor and privilege to serve the port for the past eight years. In that time the port has grown and prospered as a vital part of the economy and quality of life of our community.”

No explanation has been given publicly by the Port Commissioners for the change other than the comment about needing a change of direction.

The last time the Port Comissioners went looking for an Executive Director, the search took six months, before settling on Hyde, who was hired away from the city.
