Anacortes Town Crier Richard Riddell this week is competing in the World Town Crier Tornament in Chester, England. He placed third on Wednesday and failed to place on Thursday.

“Well, a bit of a confusion today.... I was in the pub having a pot of tea, really, when I was called to the stage. I came running out without my coat and my vest unbuttoned, but gave a nice cry. It wasn't enough to take a place today,” Riddell posted on his Facebook page on Thursday.

Riddell earlier posted that he placed third on Wednesday and is taking home “a lovely silver plate.” He is one of 24 town criers from ten countries competing this year. The third round of competition is set for Saturday.

Each of the three rounds is a self-contained event in itself, with its own winners publicly announced to the spectators on the day. However at the end of the three rounds the scores will be combined to produce the overall placings and Tournament Champion.
