Commercial Ave road repairs next week

Mel Reitz, Maintenance Supervisor for the region which includes Anacortes, said the crews will be patching vulnerable areas of Commercial, but may include the southbound lane, too, weather permitting.

Reitz said crews will create bypass lanes along current curbside parking areas. Crews will start near the Commercial roundabout and work north to 12th St.

He said crews will place “no parking” signs in the parking area along Commercial on Sunday afternoon so vehicles won’t park at the curb within the work zone, and they will move these signs north as the project continues throughout the week.

The project will consist of the removal of the existing asphalt surface to a depth of approximately 2.5 inches in areas where the pavement has degraded and where temporary repairs have been made in the past.

The cold-planer they will be using has a cutter head which is 24 inches wide and he said this will be adequate to remove the old asphalt along the failures so they can place new hot-mix asphalt in the areas which have been identified for repair.
