Just before 5:00 PM Saturday a group of teenagers was swimming at Cranberry Lake, located just off of Georgia Place, according to a news release from the Anacortes Police.
One of the group, a 13-year-old boy from Oak Harbor, began to flounder. Other members of the group tried to help him, but he slipped under the water and they lost track of him. The teens yelled for help and two adults that were in the parking area of the lake heard them and ran and jumped in the water.
The adults swam out into the lake and were able to locate the unconscious teen and bring him to the shore. The adults immediately began CPR, continuing until an Anacortes Police Officer arrived and took over. She continued CPR until a medical team from the Anacortes Fire Department was able to get to the scene. Life-saving efforts continued at the scene until the teen could be transported to Island Hospital.
Just after 7:00 PM he was transported by air to Children's Hospital in Seattle, where he was admitted to their Intensive Care Unit. His medical condition was listed as critical. His identity wasn't avaiable.
UPDATED 10:04 am Sunday to reflect incorrect information on the hospital the youth was taken to and to update his condition on Sunday morning.
