The dockside tours, which are free, will be held Saturday, noon-5pm and Sunday from 10am-3pm. The Saturday 3-hour evening sail is at 6pm and costs $55 for adults and $35 for youth under 18. Reservations are available at their Web site.
The ship will be back on June 20 for a special “School’s Out Schooner Day” program for kids aged 12-17. This will be an opportunity to take the helm of the 101-year-old schooner Adventuress for a day filled with fun and adventure in Fidalgo Bay. Activities may include seamanship, navigation, marine ecology and just having fun with Adventuress’ talented and engaging crew members. Cost is just $28 per person and includes lunch.
“So many people who see Adventuress sailing in Puget Sound on one of her many educational trips for schools wonder how they can get the chance to sail on her themselves,” said Catherine Collins, Sound Experience’s Executive Director. “Festivals are a terrific way to visit with folks who might not know anything about Adventuress or her environmental mission. The public, including families with kids of all ages can tour the ship or experience a day sail with us, and perhaps consider an overnight voyage with us in the future.”
“Adventuress is one of only two National Historic Landmark sailing ships that are still in active service on the West Coast,” said Collins. “It’s an amazing experience to take the helm and sail as they did a century ago.”
