Candice Vitale has been an art teacher at Anacortes High School for 13 years. She has a deep appreciation and passion for the arts and has impacted the lives of many high school students in meaningful ways. She has the unique ability to bring out the inner artist in all students, including those who are apprehensive or lack confidence about being in an art class.
She also teaches students to see and understand the importance of art in our individual lives, culture, and history. Whether a highly capable student, an energetic young man, or a student with individual learning challenges, Candice welcomes them all.
Candice has been a tireless promoter of her program and it has grown over the years. She is always trying out new techniques and projects with her students and is always ready to collaborate with teachers throughout the district. In addition to her teaching, she also volunteers during the summer for the Anacortes Arts Festival.
The Walter A. Brodniak Cultural Education Award was created in 1977, upon Mr. Brodniak’s retirement as Superintendent of the Anacortes School District, “to foster growth of cultural arts in the District.”
Join in celebrating Candice at a reception in her honor: Thursday, May 15th at 5:15 pm in the Anacortes School District Board Room.
