Cut-Off and Deadlines
The Legislature is already hitting cut-off deadlines as this short session approaches the half-way mark. Wednesday the 5th was the last day House policy committees could pass non-budget bills on to Rules or fiscal committees. Tuesday the 11th will be the last day that the fiscal committees can approve non-budgetary House bills, too. We will begin hearing bills that have been passed out of the Senate in the upcoming weeks. The bills that make it out of both houses can then be signed into law by Governor Inslee.
Humane Legislator of the Year
I am honored to announce that the U.S. Humane Society has named me, along with my colleague Senator Christine Rolfes, as their Humane Legislators of the Year. Last year I was heavily involved in work to find non-lethal solutions as Washington continues efforts of wolf recovery. My fellow legislators and I were thrilled to arrive at a win-win solution that eased the fears of ranchers and rural landowners without setting back the reemergence of a near-extinct wolf population. It is a privilege to receive this award in the service of the people of Washington.
Telephone Town Hall
My work in the legislature is a partnership with the people that I serve, to build strong communities. I am always curious to hear what my constituents have to say, so I am glad to announce that we will be providing you with a great opportunity for your voices to be heard this upcoming Tuesday, February 11th. All legislators from the 40th Legislative District – Senator Kevin Ranker, Representative Jeff Morris, and I – will be hosting a Telephone Town Hall at 6:00PM.
At 6:00 p.m., automated calls will go out to landlines throughout the district with a message telling people that we are about to have a telephone town hall. If you receive one of these calls and would like to take part, all you need to do is stay on the line.
We will be talking about issues before the legislature and answering live questions.
If I can be of service, please contact my office. Once session in Olympia is over in mid-March, I appreciate visiting throughout the 40th District to understand how I can continue to ensure our communities are great places to live, work, and play.
Warm regards, Kristine
