Eagles cancel weekend's donkey basketball

The Eagles have decided to cancel Saturday night’s scheduled donkey basketball game at the middle school in the light of increasing complaints to the Eagles and the school district.

The event, in which players ride donkeys in a basketball game, has been an annual fundraising feature of the Anacortes Eagles, reassign as much as $2,000 per event, with some of the proceeds going to the food bank.

The Eagles said the 1,000 or so donkey basketball ticket-holders will be able to attend an alternate magic show at the Eagles hall in downtown Anacortes. Three magic shows have been set for Saturday afternoon.
