Roundabout completion delayed

Earlier this week the city’s consulting engineers discovered an error in their design grades. In a news release, the city said some curbing had to be removed, which resulted in a delay in the construction schedule.

Barring any additional unforeseen circumstances the city says it expects the intersection to be open to traffic by the end of the day, Friday, Dec. 6, 2013.

This safety and mobility project is over 90% funded by state and federal funds and will reduce accidents at the intersection, provide traffic calming, and allow side street traffic to safely both cross and turn onto 'R' Avenue, according to the city. The project has been designed to accommodate all truck and large transport traffic that may utilize the intersection on a daily or annual basis.

The city said it would like to take this opportunity to thank all citizens of Anacortes, the businesses that frequently use this intersection, and the neighboring business for their understanding and patience during the intersection c1osure.
