Public Works open house

This event will provide an opportunity for the community to see firsthand the systems and equipment which maintain the outstanding quality of life that we enjoy in Anacortes! Students and community members will be able to ride in our street sweeper and garbage trucks, and operate surveying equipment.

The City’s camera truck crew will demonstrate its abilities to view underground pipes. Students will be able to operate our equipment used for locating buried pipes and utilities. Our state of the art Wastewater Treatment Plant will be open for tours that will illustrate the importance of biology, chemistry, and physics in the processing of “you know what” into water that is nearly drinkable and ready for discharge into the Guemes Channel.

There will be exhibits on water conservation, recycling, and composting. We will also conduct jar testing. “What is jar testing?” It is a process used by the Water Treatment Plant, called coagulation/flocculation, which is done prior to filtering the water that comes out of our faucets. Want to know more?

Come to their open house on May 31 and find out.
