Doll added, "It is important to me that there is balance. The balance between the care and love we have for our environment and the need for energetic business, the balance between the significant contributions of our retired community and the essential energy of a young work force and finally, the balance between the respect for our past and excitement about our future.”
Andrea and Bob Doll have owned their home here for 14 years but have many years living in Alaska. Since moving here, Andrea has been actively engaged as a Beach Watcher and has volunteered with several conservation groups, including Padilla Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, Skagit Fisheries Enhancement Group and Skagit Conservation District. She is a member of AAUW.
Doll says that she wants to put her professional and volunteer experience to work on the issues before the Council.
“I was a real estate agent and broker for 10 years and understand the necessity of a strong economic base. I was a teacher and professor and know the importance of a well funded and well directed school district. I served in the legislature in Alaska, representing the State on such committees as Economic and Trade Development, Military and Veterans Affairs. I have worked as a Volunteer Coordinator for a women’s shelter and an administrator of a nonprofit that engaged seniors in the community. When serving on the board of United Way I worked with all facets of the community.
I am confident that the broad spectrum of my business and volunteer experience will enable me to balance the diverse interests in our community.
The Anacortes Future Project encouraged us to plan for our future. If we want businesses compatible with our economic and environmental values we need a plan to attract them. As a necessity we need a clear permitting process. We need transparent government that not only invites public input, but puts ideas into effect. Creating our future means collaboration with our port, our schools, hospital, conservation groups and our business community.
Andrea and Bob have 4 children, all living in Seattle.
