City UGA request moves forward

Dozens of Anacortes residents crowded into Burlington's City Hall for the Wednesday meeting, which lasted only about 20 minutes.

During a brief presentation, city Planning Director Ryan Larsen explained that the request is for the city to add 11.15 acres to its UGA to be zoned for industrial use and, at the same time, to remove 16.5 acres that is already in the UGA from light industrial use.

Mayor Dean Maxwell said, "This probably  should have been in our UGA already. It needs to be part of our urban growth area." This is just the beginning of the steps needed for moving the land Anacortes requested into its UGA. The final decision is up to the county commissioners.

The interest generated by this meeting was because the area has been cited by Tethys Enterprises as a potential spot for a large bottling plant.
