Wenzel told the audience at Island View Elementary School that he's part of what he called an incredible journey to be part of public education. "No other public entity has so much impact on lives and society," he said. He added, "If we can we contribute, we can have a tremendous impact on lots of children."
Wenzel's appearance followed a full day of meetings and tours of all the schools in the Anacortes School District. He is the first of three candidates for School Superintendent here to speak at public forums.
Tuesday night another candidates, Ann Johnson, who is currently Executive Director of Elementary Education at Mukilteo School District, will speak, followed on Wednesday by David Anderson, who is currently Assistant Superintendent of Mount Vernon School District.
These three people are the finalists for Borgen's job when he retires this summer.
The School Board has scheduled a final decision for their Thursday night meeting.
