Site preparation work is now under way for a planned 19,000 square foot, one-story, 24-bedroom memory care facility on K Ave., near 34th St. that drew neighborhood opposition when the developer, Lanny Wixson, requested a conditional use permit to build the facility in the R3 residential zone.

The City Council’s approval of a conditional use permit included a requirement that Wixson also construct 5-foot concrete sidewalks on K Ave., from the facility to 32nd St., as well as on 34th St., from K Ave. to M Ave. Council members agreed the sidewalks were needed for pedestrian safety on the narrow streets.

Wixson is also part owner of Chandler Square, a retirement community on L Ave. at 12th St.
