Boiler 'upset' causes temporary shutdown

An incident with the Boiler House at the Shell Refinery at March Point caused the refinery to shut down on Thursday afternoon. Sirens were heard in town as non-essential personnel were evacuated.

Shell, in a prepared statement said simply, "At approximately 12:30 p.m. Thursday, the Shell Puget Sound refinery experienced an upset to its Boiler House. This upset required the refinery units to safely divert process products to the flare system. There were no injuries in this incident. 911 and other agencies have been notified."

No one was injured in the incident.
