City Council approves 'Aerie' for roundabout

The Council Monday officially endorsed the Anacortes Arts Commission's choice of the work by Seattle sculptor Merrilee Moore called 'Aerie,' which looks much like an eagle's nest in a steel tree. The sculpture will be installed this coming spring.

The sculpture will cost the Arts Commission about $30,000, with the city kicking in about $10,000, in addition to preparing the site with a foundation.

Moore's Web site says she creates functional glass worked, vases, bowls, platters and candlesticks, as well as larger public sculptures.
