The tree-lighting kicks off the Chamber's Holiday Art Walk, which coincides with the monthly First Friday Gallery Walk. Many downtown businesses will feature artists and will be open Friday night along with downtown's art galleries.
The town crier will make an appearance at the tree-lighting and students from Anacortes High School, and Fidalgo Elementary and Mount Erie Elementary will sing. After the ceremony, kids will have a chance to get their pictures taken with Santa. And, everyone will have a chance to get cookies and hot chocolate, courtesy the Red Cross.
Pioneer Tree and Landscaping cut the tree at Creekside Thursday morning and set it up at no charge. Also donating services include: Anacortes Construction Services, which will decorate the tree.
Other events this weekend:
The Island Hospital Foundation's annual Celebration of Trees will be open noon to 10 pm on Friday and 10 am - 1 pm on Saturday. An auction is set for 5pm Saturday.
The Lions Club's Christmas Parade will take place at 11am Saturday, along Commercial Ave to Causland Park.
