Guemes Ferry terminal gets a lift

The new terminal building went into general use last Wednesday, according to Interim Ferry Operations Manager Rachel Beck, who stood by shooting still photos and videos of the operation.

Beck said the contract to with Meyers General Construction Corp. of Everett to build the new terminal building included removal and disposal. Meyers put the old building up for bid on Craiglist and got an offer from someone in Anacortes.

Early next year, the street down to the ferry landing will re repaved, along with the concrete platform the old terminal was sitting on. That will happen along with rebuilding the bridge work at the ferry landing. That project has just gone out to bid, with work set to be completed by the end of May. 2011.

Eventually, the area where the old ferry building sat will become an outside deck for public use. The new terminal was constructed on dry land.
