Ace of Hearts Park gets improvements

The contract calls for the city to pay Rotary $15,000 for the work, but according to the "Community Work Contract" okayed Monday night, the city values the work in excess of $45,000.

City Parks Director Gary Robinson explained to the City Council that the Anacortes Rotary Club will coordinate volunteers and hire workers to complete the work using city money, some of its own money and other donated funds. Robinson said most of the work will be done on the baseball side of the park. The northern half of Ace of Hearts Park is a fenced-in off-leash dog park.

In a memo to the City Council, Robinson wrote, "We have used this type of contract in the past to efficiently accomplish work at Volunteer and Washington Parks. It has been a very effective way to coordinate volunteer / paid efforts and get the most from our public dollars."
