Preparation work is already under way on the on-land portion of a project that will include a 350-foot floating pier as well as a commercial boat ramp on Fidalgo Bay. The boat launch ramp will be the only one on the bay.
Gary Merlino Construction said it needs to complete in-water work for the pier in the next 2 months and that the work needs to be done during low tides, which occur during the 10pm to 7am time period on many days. The nighttime noise variance needed to be approved by the Council.
MJB representative Jimmy Blais told the City Council the work will not include pile driving, but will consist of dredging using an excavator, loader and a dump truck. The work will also consist of removal and replacement of contrite pads and rip-rap along the shoreline.
Blais said the work would probably only take 10 to 15 nights, not all 29 nights in the noise variance application.
The nearest residences are west of Q Ave., a few blocks west of the planned work.
