Jonn Lunsford said the fire was off trail 230 in the Whistle Lake area. He asks that hikers svoid trails 230 and 207 today so crews can finish their work. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) crews are still on site putting out hot spots in the 100 foot by 100 foot fire.
The fire was so inaccessible, firefighters had to carry water in with backpacks.
The Red Cross team supported 42 firefighters from the Anacortes Fire Department, fire districts 11 and 13, as well as the Department of Natural Resources. Food for the firefighters was provided by the Pizza Factory, McDonald's and Crusin' Coffee.
