Many of the Anacortes folks on the ferry waved small American flags as they got off in Sidney. They were welcomed by dozens of Sidney residents waving Canadian flags. The US passengers were greeted with live music, a couple speeches, including Maxwell's, cookies and coffee.
After an hour, most of the Anacortes residents trooped back onto the WSF's Chelan for the trip back to Friday Harbor and Anacortes.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the WSF's Anacortes-to-Sidney run. The trip was run by a private ferry company for 20 years before that.
