Roundabout good for traffic

According to city statistics, there were an average of 8 accidents per month at the Commercial Ave.-Highway 20 intersection before the roundabout was built. But, as City Public Works Directory Fred Buckenmeyer says, "We've seen none" since then.

In fact, the reason the city wanted to build the roundabout was because more accidents happened there than anywhere else in the city. The state DOT put up about $500,000 and the city paid the rest of the total $1.2 million cost.

The roundabout was designed by Reid Middleton and built by SRV Construction.

The Arts Commission has plans to put a sculpture in the roundabout. Once funds have been secured, the Commission will put out a call to artists for proposals.
