The new park complex has a 1.5 acre fenced dog park, and will eventually also have a baseball field, playground, and other facilities. The project is a community and City of Anacortes project. Anacortes Noon Rotary Club as well as FIDO (Fidalgo Islanders for Dogs Off-leash) are assisting through fundraising and volunteer efforts.
The new park is being developed in stages, and the dog park is almost complete. The dog park also features a watering station, wash-off hose and benches. The parking lot is a bit muddy this winter, but the fenced-in area is covered in grass. Trees have been added. The driveway is currently unpaved, but we understand it will be paved in the future.
When we stopped by Wednesday, usage was light with just two dogs and their owners there. The temporary dog park, at 9th St. and R Ave., continues to be available for off-leash dogs. The private owner eventually plans a commercial-residential building for that area.
