The annual event has turned into a competition for the most interest or original tree and it has prompted some unusual variations on the traditional Christmas tree. The Market at Anacortes is decorating its tree with items that can go to area food banks. The Walgreens drug store is decorating with durable medical supplies that will go to residents who can't afford them.
The event, which is at the Port's Warehouse at the foot of Commercial Ave., includes a hot cocoa booth by Windermere Real Estate, a cookie booth from John L Scott Real Estate. Kids get a chance for pictures with Santa. And, not to be missed is the talking tree.
Friday afternoon will find members of the Anacortes High School Bank performing, dancing by Fidalgo Danceworks members and Christmas carols by the Fidalgo Elementary's choir.
Saturday night features a live and silent auction and cocktail reception. The reception and auction tickets go for $35 each, but the Celebration of Trees is free. The Celebration of Trees will be open Friday from 10am - 7pm and Saturday from 9am to noon.
