Anthony's founder Budd Gould addressed the small gathering at Cap Sante for the ground breaking. He stressed that Anthony's is still a family-run operation and many employees have been with the company for 20 or 30 years.
While the formal ceremony itself wasn't hindered by the stormy weather, the lunch provided by Anthony's had to move into the Port Warehouse after the tent at Cap Sante was blown down by Friday morning's windy conditions.
The new restaurant is expected to employ around 75 workers. It will include banquet facilities meant to handle meetings of up to 40 people.
Construction is expected to get started in mid-December with the opening set for July, 2010.
