Maxwell beats Sonnenberg 2-1; Yost-Hyde race close

With only about 3,400 votes counted, Maxwell is well ahead, with 2,399 (70%) votes to Sonnenberg's 1,048 (30%). Maxwell said of Anacortes voters "I'm grateful lfor their support and Im happy to do it again."

In the one School Board race with a challenger, Karl Yost has a very narrow lead with 1,989 votes to Bob Hyde's 1,908 votes, just 81 votes apart. Two other school board incumbents, Mitch Everton and Kris Lytton, faced no opposition.

In the Port races, it looks like all 3 incumbents are in line to be re-elected. Ray Niver is leading Roger Born, 56% to 44%. Bill Short has a more substantial lead over John Prosser with 69% to Prosser's 31%. And, Keith Rubin has an easy win with 76% of the vote to Guy Davidson's 24%.

There were no challengers for the 4 City Council races up for election, so Brian Geer, Cynthia Richardson, Bill Turner and Erica Pickett will return to office.

The levy for Fidalgo Pool & Fitness District won with a 75% yes vote.

The next vote tally is set to be available at 5pm Wednesday.
