Trestle may re-open by next April

The City and the Samish Indian Nation say that they hope to re-open the causeway & trestle portion of the Tommy Thompson Trail, damaged by fire earlier this month, by April of next year.

In a news release issued Monday, Anacortes Mayor Dean Maxwell and Samish Indian Nation Tribal Chair Tom Wooten said they are "deeply saddened" by the trestle fire and they "share a commitment to rebuilding with a common goal of reopening the trail by April 2010."

The release goes on to say they appreciate the outpouring of support that they're received from the community.

The fire on October 15 destroyed approximately 400 feet of the nearly half-mile long trestle across Fidalgo Bay. The fire is being investigated as suspicious.

The release said they will be accepting donations through the Anacortes Parks Foundation, PO Box 1902, Anacortes. For more information, contact the city Parks & Recreation Department at 293-1918.
