School Board gives back

School Board President Kris Lytton made the suggestion and later said "we're giving back" to the school district because of the school district's tight budget situation. Looking our over the audience of news media and district staff, Board Member Mitch Everton said "It's not a million dollars or anything like that."

School Board members get a stipend of $50 for each meeting they attend. They usually attend 2 meetings per month, amounting to only about $6,000 per year. District Budget & Finance Director Lisa Matthews said other fringe benefits would push the total to around $7,000 per year.

The Board members decided to forgo their stipends for two years. Lytton suggested that the funds not be earmarked, but be available for whatever the district needs the money for.
