Munks chosen County Assessor

Munks will take over the job of County Assessor on Thursday, Oct. 1 after being chosen for the job by the 3 current County Commissioners.

Monks suffered a heart attack last October and decided not to run for re-election last November. At the time, he said “The most important priority for me is my family, my wife Cathy of 44 years, our four daughters and son-in-laws, and our seven grandchildren.” He added “They have all said that the most important priority is my health.”

Munks said he wants to make some changes to the Assessor's office, including creating a citizens committee to improve communication between property owners and the assessor.

There has been some public criticism of the Assessor's Office after the last round or property assessments valued homes higher than expected, considering the economic slump.

Munks won the Assessor's position over Joe Franett, a retiree from Nordic Tugs and Deputy Assessor Dave Thomas, a 12-year employee of the office.
