Enjoy the weekend

The annual Eagles barbecue, long an Anacortes tradition, is this weekend. Close to a ton of King Salmon, Chickens, and Country Style Pork Ribs get cooked over open alder fires. The cooking takes place on Q Ave, but you're able to dine at tables set up on Seventh St.  Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 11 am to 7 pm. This is their 54th annual event.

(Handful of Luvin')

Friday night, music takes center stage again at the Cap Sante Marina with the appearance of Handful of Luvin', another one of those hard-to-describe bands. Every member of the band brings their own entirely unique background with music to the band whether its gypsy, folk, funk, reggae, or rock. When these guys come together, in any setting, it is never disappointing. Handful of Luvin' has an energy that is unparalleled as well as contagious. ln the end Handful of Luvin' is a number of things: it is what the fans and the audience are left with after a HOL show; and it is about five very diverse musicians who love music and try to communicate that to everyone.

Over at the Anacortes Community Theatre, you get another chance to see Bus Stop. You won't see Marilyn Monroe, who starred in the 1956 movie production. But... In the middle of a howling snowstorm, a bus pulls into a cheerful roadside diner when all the roads are blocked. The odd assortment of travelers pour out of the bus including a nightclub singer who has been kidnapped by a star-struck clumsy cowboy from Montana.

And, if you want to get out of town, there's always the county fair over in MV.
