Dorothy Ives, accompanied by her son Rob Grossman and John White, director of the Skagit Community Foundation board, presented the check to school Superintendent Chris Borgen.
Brodniak Hall has received other donations recently, including $40,000 from Betty Ann Morgan for new lighting and sound systems, $10,000 from Virginia foley for renovation of Brodniak Hall. And, the Associated Student body donated $10,000 to the project. The Anacortes Arts Festival also conated $2,775 to upgrade the stage.
Actor and folksinger Burl Ives appeared in numerous movies and television shows, and won an Oscar for best supporting actor for his role in the film "The Big Country." He and his wife retired to Anacortes and he continued to be active in the community until his death in 1995.
