2 file for School Board opening

Port of Anacortes Executive Director Bob Hyde and Granite Construction environmental services manager Karl Yost have filed during the special three-day filing period.

Hyde told the Skagit Valley Herald that his 3 boys are AHS graduates and he wanted to give back by serving on the School Board. "I'm excited about being able to help," he said.

Yost is a former education who has also worked for the Michigan Department of Corrections and who moved here in 1997. "I think with a community that is very supportive of education, everybody will pitch in to continue its growth and pursuit of excellence," he told the Herald.

The two will face off in the November 3 general election. Meantime, the School Board will accept applications to fill the vacancy until the election.
