Marina Place gets Council okay

The City Council approved a Conditional Use Permit for Marina Place, which had recently won the okay of the City Planning Commission. A Conditional Use Permit is required because the area is on a Commercial Marine zone.

City Council member Cynthia Richardson said she was really pleased. “I like the diversity of the units.” She said the plan is much better than the original one which the Council rejected last year. She said she was pleased that the condos ranged in size more than the original plan.

Marina Place will include condos ranging in size from 800 square feet to 1,500 square feet in addition to 7,000 square feet of commercial/retail space.

Other council members weighted in, too. Nick Petrish called the project “an excellent plan for the area.” Kevin McKeown said “This creates a more walkable community.”

The one issue which generated discussion was over whether the alley leading into the project’s parking lot from Q Ave. will be paved or not. The short alley is shared with a neighboring apartment project.

The complex will be on the site of the current temporary dog park.
