Improved cell phone service in Skyline coming

The city and Cingular, which operates as AT&T, have a negotiated a contract allowing the construction of a cell tower at the city fire station at Sunset Ave. and Anaco Beach Rd. in Skyline.

The cell phone antennas would be mounted inside a flagpole to be built by the wireless carrier, with transmission equipment in a new shed behind the fire station.

The city will receive $1,010 per month for the first three years, then will increase every year of a 5-year contract. The contract allows for up to 4 automatic renewals, allowing a term up to 25 years.

Approval of the contract was up for review at Monday night’s City Council meeting, but some council members had questions about specific terms in the contract. The Council tabled action on the contract.
