Soroptimist Thrift Shop expansion opens

The Thrift Shop opened the expanded section on April 3. A Grand Opening will take place next month after glitches, if there are any, are worked out.

The main feature is the expanded hospital equipment room. The Soroptimist Thrift Shop loans items such as canes, crutches, hospital beds, wheelchairs and other durable hospital items to anyone in the 98221 ZIP code for as long as they need them. Until now, the equipment has been housed in a closet.

The two-story addition includes offices and records upstairs. The addition is about 3,800 square feet.

The Thrift Shop makes more than $200,000 a year for the Soroptimists, who turn around and send most of that money into the community via scholarships and other community donations.

The Soroptimist Thrift Shop is open on Tuesdays 1:30-8 p.m. and Fridays noon to 9 p.m.
