Two Anacortes men were uninjured when the ultra-light aircraft they were flying crashed into a fence on the perimeter of the Anacortes Airport Wednesday evening. The light sport-type aircraft sustained damage to its wing, propeller, a wheel strut, and a fiberglass enclosure.
An approximate 40-foot section of the fence was also damaged. The pilots, identified as Randall Hill, 45, and Brian White, 23, told a police officer that they had just taken off and risen to an altitude of approximately 50 feet when the aircraft lost power.
The craft was dragged back to a private hanger after the event.
The National Transportation Safety Board was also notified of the accident.
