The county planning department has set an open house this Thursday in Anacortes for Tesoro’s proposal to build a plant expansion to extract xylene from crude oil.
Xylene can be used to create products such as polyester fabrics and other plastics. Their proposal is to ship the xylene to Asia.
An open house is set for 4:00-8:00 pm Thursday, Mar. 31, at the Anacortes High School gym and will take public comment from 4:30-7:00 pm in Brodniak Hall on the AHS campus. The open house is for what’s called a “scoping” meeting to review how extensive required environmental impact statement would be needed.
The county’s Web site says they will be using a lottery system to determine the speakers, in case there are more individuals that wish to speak than can be accommodated during this time period. Each speaker will have up to two minutes to make a verbal comment for the record.
