The Port Commissioners have agreed to purchase the entire block south of Puget Sound Rope for $2.4-million, according to two Port Commissioners. The property includes the old Marine Supply & Hardware store on Commercial Ave.

Port Commissioner Pat Mooney said that Puget Sound Rope had told the Port they need to expand or move to another location. so the Port approached the Demopoulos family about about the block they own just south.

Part of their agreement is that the buildings along Commercial Ave., including Marine Hardware won’t be touched. Mooney said, “The community would kill us if we touched it!” But, the Port will clear the old storage facilities behind Marine Hardware.

The property, bounded by Commercial Ave., Third St., O Ave., and Second St. is already included in the Port’s comprehensive plan.

Other details haven't been provided by the Port staff.
