Roundabout construction hits business

Priscilla and Frank Michaud, owners of The Store, say they've seen a dramatic drop in business since roundabout construction is blocking easy access to the south end of Commercial Ave.

Access to The Store is still available via a bit longer route by heading west on 32nd St, south on M, east on 41st, then after a jog, north on Commercial to The Store. The route is marked as access to Commercial Ave., which is a bit misleading since it's only a short stretch of Commercial Ave.

So far the Michauds have maintained a bright outlook, based in part on a hope that loyal customers will find their way to the shop for lunch, coffee, fresh-baked pastries and a wide selection of wines. "When life gives you a lemon, drink wine," quips Priscilla.

Parking isn't quite as handy as the contractor for the roundabout project has taken over much of the lot across the street from The Store.

When I was at The Store on Friday morning, I ran into 2 apparent out-of-towners who both asked for directions to the ferry. I'm still scratching my head over how they got to The Store.

Roundabout construction is expected to last through the month of July.
