The 47th annual Anacortes Arts Festival, which got off to a low-key start last weekend, springs into full bloom this Friday, Saturday & Saturday. Last weekend, the Festival staged the Art Dash, opened Art at the Port to the public, and started a series of concerts.

The centerpiece of the Arts Festival is the several blocks-long street fair, with 250 outstanding juried Booth Artisans, first class fine art exhibitions, culinary art with an international selection of foods, and a creative youth activities area for the youngest artists.

There will be four stages of free music during the festival offering jazz, rhythm & blues, rock, Latin, folk, classical, tango and more.

Check out the evening Concerts at the Port which started last weekend and continue tonight (Wednesday) and Friday and Satruday nights. These intimate concerts feature well-known musicians in a setting overlooking the water. Pearl Django is on stage Friday night and La Luciernaga tango band Saturday night. Shows are at 7 pm. Tickets are $15.

Anacortes Community & Youth Arts is coordinating the annual Youth Art Exhibit at Art at the Port. Consisting of two and three dimensional pieces by artists ranging from kindergarten through high school, this show is a versatile and diverse representation of youth art in Anacortes.

Nationally recognized painter Audrey Roll will be working on the production of a mural that will continue the mural series on the Tommy Thompson Parkway along the Anacortes waterfront. Capturing the spirit and movement of the crowd, her mural will be sure to entertain.

NuArt '08 consists of a juried open competition featuring bodies of work by selected artists. The 2008 juror is Phen Huang, Director of Foster/White Galleries in Seattle. She selected 29 artists with 103 pieces for this year's exhibit.
