The Mayor has presented awards for the preservation of three Anacortes buildings; one home and 2 downtown businesses.

The City has reached an agreement to allow AT&T to build a cell tower in Skyline. The 65 foot tower will be disguised as a flag pole at the fire station at Sunset Ave. and Anaco Beach Rd.

School administrators and the school board have some hard choices to make this week as they look at staff cuts because of a projected budget shortfall.

An Anacortes man was uninjured when the pickup he was driving struck a deer that ran into the road on Highway 20 near Old Brook Lane, just south of Sharpes Corner. The deer died as the result of the Apr. 24 accident.   

Two students who were sent home from Island View Elementary School with flu-like symptoms have tested negative for swine flu. They are welcome to return to class on Monday, according to school superintendent Chris Borgen.

The Anacortes School District says it’s taking action in light of the increasing number of swine flu cases around the world. The district says, in a news release, that 2 students here have been sent home with flu-like symptoms.
