State Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen received a commemorative "Saved" poster Friday night at the Anacortes Waterfront Festival kickoff dinner.

The state has agreed to purchase two islands at the south end of Similk Bay using state and federal funds.  Kiket and Flagstaff islands have been offered to the state by their owners. The islands will become part of Deception Pass State Park.

Proposals to add new restrictions along the Guemes Channel waterfront and in Old Town drew a large crowd to City Hall Wednesday night.

A car accident was not responsible for the April 23 county-wide power outage last month, according to Puget Sound Energy.

The Waterfront Festival returns this weekend, with a variety of family-friendly marine-related activities, including free boat rides, a “quick-and-dirty” boat building demonstration, open-water sea kayak races, a boat show, car show, model boat show and a swap meet.   

 The 150 residents served by the Holiday Hideaway Water Association on Guemes Island are being advised to boil their water because routine testing detected E.coli bacteria in the water.
