State to purchase two local islands

The state has agreed to purchase two islands at the south end of Similk Bay using state and federal funds.  Kiket and Flagstaff islands have been offered to the state by their owners. The islands will become part of Deception Pass State Park.

The Waterfront Festival returns this weekend, with a variety of family-friendly marine-related activities, including free boat rides, a “quick-and-dirty” boat building demonstration, open-water sea kayak races, a boat show, car show, model boat show and a swap meet.
