A bald eagle shattered an Anacortes police officer’s windshield as the officer was driving on Highway 20 east of town. 

Three dogs mauled a 21-year old pet donkey near the corner of 32nd St. and H Ave. earlier this week. The noise from the attack woke the owner, Rosemary Orr, who reported seeing pit bulls or mixed-breed pit bulls attacking her donkey.

These 10 men are breaking ground at Seafarers Memorial Park for a major 2-1/2 year toxic cleanup of the area south of Cap Sante Marina. They represent the Port of Anacortes, state Dept. of Ecology and Kimberly-Clark.

Housing units destined for a small Alaskan village leave Fidalgo Bay on a barge pulled by a tug. Once on dry land, these housing units will be connected to make 19 living spaces and a garage/shop in Hooper Bay, Alaska, a little village located 525 miles west of Anchorage.

The head of the state ferry system was fairly upbeat as he addressed a meeting at the Senior Center Thursday night, but David Moseley indicated some tough work is still ahead to put the ferry system on an even keel.

Bellissima Trattoria owner Marianne Mach and son Tyler, who manages the restaurant, were pleased when the restaurant's new sign arrived this week. Bellissima, located at 904 Commercial Ave., is now in its fourth year of operation.
