A 7-foot section of a 12 inch water main broke late Wednesday night at 12th St. and Commercial Ave., causing a fairly large hole in the street and pumping water and mud onto the streets for a couple blocks around.

Looks like Senator Patty Murray managed to get $3 million in federal transportation money to build a new WSF ferry terminal in Anacortes. The state had asked for $26 million for the Anacortes terminal.

The county has been allocated $750,000 in federal money to build a new ferry terminal for the Guemes Island ferry. But, the state failed to get $26 million to build a new Anacortes ferry terminal.

The Anacortes Futures Project, an effort by the Chamber of Commerce to improve city planning, has received high marks from City Council members.

The city has reopened Heart Lake to swimmers after closing it Friday afternoon because of unusually high fecal coliform counts.
