Someone stole large recycling bins apparently full of recycling material early Friday morning in the Skyline area.

One wonderful film, Up in the Air, comes to Anacortes this weekend. Also new this week are Did You Hear About the Morgans?, which is being panned and The Tooth Fairy. One holdover: The Book of Eli.

Local historian and former newspaper publisher Wally Funk attended the University of Washington in the 1940's, but was finally presented his degree at Thursday night's School Board meeting by School Superintendent Chris Borgen as School Board President Kris Lytton enjoys the scene.

Working from a barge next to the Fidalgo Bay trestle, a crew from Culbertson Marine started work Thursday on removing pilings and timbers damaged in an October fire on the trestle. 

An Anacortes Police detective spent the second straight day in Snohomish County continuing to search for missing retired high school counselor Keith Anderson. Anderson, a popular counselor who retired 2 years ago from Anacortes High School, went missing January 6.

The City Council has okayed giving property tax breaks for new residential construction in the downtown business district. The new rules are designed to jump-start the creation of new residential housing above downtown businesses.
