Crews are laying boulders to create a new breakwater just off Seafarers' Memorial Park, near Cap Sante Marina. The work is part of an environmental cleanup undertaken by the Port of Anacortes and the state Department of Ecology.
One of the four ferries operating in the Anacortes-San Juan islands route has been taken out of service for mechanical problems. That reduces capacity on the route.
The state Dept. of Transportation has completed the highway 20 widening project near Quiet Cove, between Sharpes Corner and Deception Pass. The project took nearly 2 years and cost $32.5 million.
Police made several arrests for drunk driving this week, between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Two of the cases involved accidents where a vehicle either flipped over or rolled onto its side.
