The school district could face a $4 million shortfall for the coming school year, according to school Superintendent Chris Borgen. He called it a “worst-case scenario.” 

The Senate has released a proposed 2009-11 transportation budget that includes funding for local highways and continues service on the Anacortes-Sidney Ferry.

Anglers will be going after salmon and more than $20,000 in cash prizes in this weekend’s annual Anacortes Salmon Derby. Top prize is $12,000.

State Transportation Department crews are inspecting the Deception Pass bridges this week. The work has been causing traffic backups because only one lane is open from 8 am - 2 pm.
